THUNDER BAY -- One of Thunder Bay's youngest do-gooders brought her anti-bullying campaign to a local elementary school on Thursday.
Taylor Gorrie is introducing kids to a new way to stop the abuse.
At this high-energy pep rally, 11-year-old Taylor Gorrie introduced the Safe Zone, a new pilot project at Kingsway.
The Safe Zone, launching later this month, will be a drop-in room where students experiencing bullying can go for help.
The room will be staffed with counsellors from Confederation College's Child and Youth Care program.
The idea came from Gorrie, who says she experienced bullying last year, and couldn't find help.
“I got bullied a lot in my old school and I didn’t get any help at all, so I basically want to help other people,” Gorrie said.
“I don’t just want to help the person I want to help the bully too, because sometimes the bully doesn’t get help and sometimes they really do need it.”
After the pep rally, kids were asked to sign a pledge that they would support the Safe Zone. School administrators say they still haven't decided where the Zone will go yet, but expect the pilot program to kick off later this month.
