THUNDER BAY -- The emerald ash borer is moving closer to Thunder Bay.

The city of Duluth is now in quarantine, following the discovery of the beetle.

This summer, the Thunder Bay launched its annual green Ribbon Campaign to let the public know just how much the ash borer would impact the city if it reached this far.

City Forester Shelly Vescio said the beetle spreads easily when firewood is transported from one area to another. Fortunately, Thunder Bay residents seem to have heeded the warning.

Vescio says with this winter expected to be more mild, the ash borers will have an easier time of surviving and coming back strong in the spring.
