Empty tank leads to drug arrest near Nipigon

Police spot marijuana after driver runs out of gas, seize cocaine and cash as a result.

NIPIGON – Forgetting to fill up landed a Milton, Ont. man in jail.

Ontario Provincial Police said they recovered a quantity of marijuana and cocaine, as well as more than $5,000 in cash after being alerted early Monday that a disabled vehicle was interfering with traffic on Highway 17 near Corrigal Township.

Upon arrival at the scene officers determined the male driver had run out of gas.

Police, while speaking to the 25-year-old driver, noticed a bag of marijuana on the floor of the vehicle. A further search revealed more pot, cannabis resin, cocaine and cash.

The suspect faces several trafficking offences as well as possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He’s been remanded into custody and awaits a bail hearing.
