OLIVER PAIPOONGE – The Kam River Fighting Walleye are right back in the thick of things.

The Superior International Junior Hockey League team captured its second straight contest on Saturday night, downing the visiting Wisconsin Lumberjacks 6-1 to move into a tie for third place with the Dryden Ice Dogs, with three games in hand on the two teams in front of them.

Alex Enegren scored twice and added an assist to lead the way for the Fighting Walleye (4-2-1), with singles going to Luca Ricciardi, a call-up for the game, Trenton Morriseau, Ethan Lang and Jeremy Dunmore.

Lang and Morriseau each had three-point nights.

Caeden Phelps had the lone goal for the Lumberjacks (3-6-1), who were visiting the Thunder Bay area for the third straight weekend, in part because of restrictions at the American border.

Austin Madge made 31 stops to earn the win in nets for Kam River, while Kyler Lowden allowed six goals on 42 shots against in taking the loss.

Kam River takes to the road next weekend to play Fort Frances on Friday night and Dryden on Saturday night.

The idle North Stars will also be away from home next weekend, matching up against Fort Frances on Saturday night.
