Thunder Bay Hydro is warning residents that a telemarketing campaign selling energy-saving devices is likely a scam.

Officials with Thunder Bay Hydro received calls from customers about a telemarketing campaign that claims to be selling hydro energy saver devices at a cost of $100 a unit. The suspected scam artists claim to be working for the province and say they are responding to high-energy prices in the area.

The device being sold has no known scientific merit and the company is not associated with the province, Thunder Bay Hydro says.

Callers also say that a charge will be made against the customer’s electricity bill if they do not pay for the shipping cost of the package. Thunder Bay Hydro officials say the claim carries no weight.

Thunder Bay Police Service is now investigating this issue.
