THUNDER BAY -- The city's third phase for the proposed event centre is coming in nearly $177,000 over budget.
On Monday city council will be asked to approve $176,988 over the original $3 million for completion of the third phase mainly due to extra legal services for operating, property, construction and lease agreements.
Funding for Phase 3 came from the city's Renew Thunder Bay Fund, also where the extra money would come from, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and FedNor.
To-date, project costs are nearly $4 million. In September, council voted to move ahead to Phase 4, which would prepare and submit the project for provincial and federal funding and confirm commitments from the private sector.
