Excavator joyride leads to $25K in damages

A scale shack was demolished overnight Saturday and a 60-foot conveyer damaged after someone broke into a Gorham Township gravel pit off Virolainen Road and stole an excavator. Thunder Bay OPP said the damage is estimated to be more than $25,000.

A scale shack was demolished overnight Saturday and a 60-foot conveyer damaged after someone broke into a Gorham Township gravel pit off Virolainen Road and stole an excavator.

Thunder Bay OPP said the damage is estimated to be more than $25,000.

They said an employee of the gravel pit made the discovery Saturday morning, noting the scale shack had been demolished and torn from its mounting. The conveyer suffered frame damage.
