THUNDER BAY — Environment Canada is warning northwestern Ontario residents to brace for a prolonged period of below-normal temperatures, starting Wednesday.
The thermometer was not expected to climb above freezing today, and the daily maximum – through at least Nov. 5 – in most cases will hover just a couple of degrees above zero Celcius before falling below freezing.
Trick-or-treating on Thursday evening will take place under a clear sky but the wind chill will feel like - 5 C.
Meteorologist Gerald Cheng says the overall outlook through next week is "not so great."
The normal high for Thunder Bay at this time of year is 6 C, but Cheng says "it will be nowhere near that."
On Tuesday of next week, the maximum be only -1 C.
This cold spell, Cheng said, "is gonna last some time."
"I always remind people this is a taste of winter. It's not that far away. After Halloween we should be prepared for cold temperatures."
This weekend will also see a chance of snow flurries on both Saturday and Sunday, possibly extending into Monday as well.
