Facility-wide COVID-19 outbreak declared at Southbridge Pinewood

All sections of the 128-bed long-term care facility are now affected by the outbreak, with 18 residents and six staff members testing positive for COVID-19.

THUNDER BAY — An outbreak of COVID-19 at the Southbridge Pinewood long-term care home has now been extended to the entire facility.

The outbreak previously involved residents or staff in three sections of the 128-bed facility on Walsh Street East.

On Monday, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and Southbridge Care Homes announced it had spread to a fourth section.

According to information posted online by the company on Monday, 18 residents and six staff members have tested positive for COVID-19. The company said the residents and staff members are fully vaccinated, and that the staff members are isolating at home.

On Oct. 5, it said 25 residents and four staff members had tested positive.

Elsewhere, a COVID-19 outbreak that had been in effect at St. Joseph's Hospital on 4 North (hospice and palliative care) was declared over.
