(KENORA, ON) – With summer fast approaching, the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind the public about the laws that apply to golf carts and similar motorized vehicles being operated on roadways.

Simply stated, golf carts are not permitted on any highway or street in the City of Kenora or surrounding area.   Anyone operating a golf cart on a highway can be charged under the Highway Traffic Act or other relevant legislation.

Operators of vehicles that are not designated for highway use face the same penalties that apply to drivers of vehicles like cars, trucks and motorcycles.  These charges include (but are not limited to):

• Impaired driving
• Driving without licence plates
• Driving with no insurance
• Improper lighting
• Any offences related to equipment and mechanical safety
• Offences relating to the Liquor Licence Act

A golf cart cannot be legally operated anywhere in the Kenora are other than at a golf course or on your own property.
