Ontario's colleges will take their contract offer to the teachers, but the union representing instructors say they still expect their members to reject it, reports the Canadian Press.
The 24 community colleges called on the Ontario Labour Relations Board to arrange a vote on the offer.
The teachers have set a strike deadline of Feb. 11. OPSEU bargaining chairman Ted Montgomery told the Canadian Press that he's confident teachers will reject the offer, which he said contains "significant take-aways'' and fails to address workload issues.
The college's offer includes a 5.9 per cent pay increase.
College faculty represented by OPSEU gave their union a strike mandate in November. The vote revealed that 57 per cent of members favoured giving the union a strike mandate. But local officials say faculty in this region voted nearly 70 per cent in favour.
