THUNDER BAY -- The family and community of murder victim Sherman Quisses came together on Monday for a memorial in his honour in Thunder Bay.
Quisses was killed five years ago at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre.
Members of both the Quisses family and Neskantaga First Nation say they intend to oppose a motion to stay the first-degree murder charge laid against Adam Capay in connection with the homicide.
At the service, held at the Matawa First Nations office, family members said the long wait between Quisses' death and Capay's trial has been an ordeal.
Quisses’ son Tristan said he went through many painful emotions.
“I went through depression, I nearly committed suicide and it’s because of what happened. My family and dad deserve justice,” he said.
Quisses’ brother Michael Moonias believes it would be simple if he wasn’t treated differently while he was incarcerated, but the outcome makes it harder.
Quisses's family members added they intend to be in court when the motion in Capay's case begins to be heard on Tuesday.
