THUNDER BAY -- The daughter of an Oliver-Paipoonge woman whose home burned to the ground on Tuesday is asking the public for help.
Brittany Reid started a GoFundMe page two days after the devastating fire, hoping to raise $500 to help her mother bridge the gap as insurance assesses her home and it is rebuilt.
Reid's mother remains in hospital due to smoke inhalation.
Although fire officials on the scene said the cause will likely never be known, the homeowner's medical condition required her to have oxygen tanks in the house. The tanks exploded in the blaze, making the fire's impact severely worse than it might have otherwise been.
"It's not like me to reach out publicly to ask for help but I wanted to relieve some stress from my mom and her boyfriend and help her out in the only way I can," Reid said.
"That's just a small goal but anything would help."
Reid thanked the public for the $165 in financial donations the family has already received, adding clothes and day-to-day necessities are also being welcomed.
"People have offered clothing donations and that would be awesome because seh has nothing," Reid said.
"She left the house with the clothing on her back."
