The spring farm conference has been running for nearly 30 years. The event gives farmers and agricultural enthusiasts from the region the chance to meet with others in the industry to discuss food safety practices, ways of becoming more environmentally friendly and how to keep up with ever changing technology.

Christina Mol

is the secretary treasurer for the Soil and Crop Improvement Association and said she believes that knowledge is key when it comes to being successful in the business.

"I think it is a good thing for farmers to keep up to date on certain issues," Mol said. "There’s always new technology that we need to know about, so in order to be at the top of our game we need to have all the latest information to make sure we’re the best we can be."

Thunder Bay farmers face a range of challenges every year. These challenges include finding ways to produce more products while still being profitable, meeting strict environmental standards, maintaining food quality and dealing with nature.

The trade show is designed to help farmers tackle the obstacles ahead. To get ready for the upcoming season, trade show goers are sharing tips, advice and any information they can about running a strong business

Industry experts from Manitoba, Quebec, and Wisconsin have been in the city giving presentations to local agricultural enthusiasts since Tuesday. The spring show concludes Thursday.
