THUNDER BAY -- The annual spring farm conference was in full swing last Thursday near Kakabeka Falls.

Farmers from all over the region got together to learn from one another about an industry that keeps changing.

Farming season is just around the corner, and what better way to compare notes than over food and conversation.

The Kakabeka Legion was filled with industry professionals ready to talk about their needs, successes and learn about the latest technologies, but Jason Reid with Thunder Bay's soil and crop improvement agency said it's about more than just that.

“It really brings all the farmers out. It builds community spirit for us and it gives all of our farmers the opportunity to meet with the suppliers,” Reid said.

“It really gives us that personal relationship building and interaction with the new technologies and the new things that might be going on.”

Thunder Bay Feeds’ Harold Bosma said in an individually owned business it’s common to believe your way is the only way.

“These conventions give us the opportunity to hear, see and network with others to learn what other people are doing and how we might adjust what we are doing to better suit our needs to improve business and production,” Bosma said.

The two-day annual event brought more than 200 farmers, suppliers and industry professionals from all over Ontario.
