OPP responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision Tuesday evening when a car travelling eastbound collided with a westbound pickup truck

(FORT FRANCES, ON) – On October 11, 2016 at 9:33 pm, officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of serious motor vehicle collision on Kings Highway 11 on Couchiching First Nation.

A car travelling eastbound collided with a westbound pickup truck. Police and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the scene. It was determined there were three occupants in the eastbound vehicle with two pronounced dead at the scene. The third occupant was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

A lone male from Fort Frances in the pickup truck was not injured. The deceased have been identified as 46-year-old Shirley SMITH from Couchiching First Nation and 20-year-old Allison SMITH from Fort Frances.

The investigation continues with the assistance of OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator, the Northwest Region Highway Safety Division and Forensic Identification Unit.
