The parents of a Thunder Bay teen are hoping their son's bike will turn up after it was allegedly stolen on May 25, 2020 outside of a Mac's store on May Street.

THUNDER BAY - A Thunder Bay father is speaking out after his teenage son had his bike stolen during a hostile encounter on Monday afternoon.

Scott Cameron says his 15-year-old son and his friend were riding bikes on Memorial Avenue at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 25.

According to Cameron, the commotion began after his son, who he asked not to be named, and a friend rode their bikes around a woman who was standing on the side of the road off Memorial Avenue.

“I guess she called her boyfriend and told him that my son had hit her,” the father said.

Cameron said his son and his friend went into a Mac’s store to purchase beverages on May Street.

When the two boys exited the store, they noticed a man crossing the street.

“They didn’t think anything of it and the guy pulled out a baton and went after my kid,” he said. “They threatened him so my son took off and he didn’t have time to grab his bike so they took off and ran from the guy and the guy took his bike.”

Cameron says his son had saved up his own money in order to buy his bike he had only bought five days prior.

“He walks our friend’s dog every day faithfully for $6.00 a walk and he saved his money for that bike for quite some time,” he said.

Cameron said he wonders why anyone would steal from a 15-year-old.

“There is no reason for bullying, get a job and work for what you want and that’s exactly what this is,” he said.

Thunder Bay Police Service confirmed they received reports of a robbery with an unknown weapon on Monday afternoon outside of a Mac's store on May street.

“He’s a 15-year-old boy, he shouldn’t have to deal with that, this person was in their late 20s.”

The boy's parents have also turned to social media in efforts to locate their son's bike.
