Plans to transform an abandoned CN Rail line between Thunder and Nipigon into a recreational trail are moving to the feasibility study stage following a $34,000 provincial grant.

The old King Horn rail line was decommissioned and the tracks were removed last year. An adhoc committee made up of representatives from Nipigon, Red Rock, Dorion, Shuniah and Thunder Bay are all working together to study the potential for converting the line, which also includes the Pass Lake Trestle, into a tourist attraction.

Nipigon Mayor Richard Harvey says public consultation will be a major component of the consultant’s report.

Harvey says a consultant will be hired in the near future.

The report is expected to be completed by the end of March.
