A $3.5 million offer has been put on the table by the federal government to settle a long standing land claim dispute in the Loch Lomand area with Fort William First Nation.

The agreement has yet to be ratified by the band. An information session is being held Wednesday at the Prince Arthur Hotel. Band members will be voting Feb. 6 on whether or not to accept the offer. Chief Peter Collins said any money coming into the community is good news.

If the offer is accepted, Fort William First Nation will have to hand over $2.3 million of the money to the city of Thunder Bay for outstanding taxes on the Abitibi-Bowater sawmill.
