THUNDER BAY -- The Italian Cultural Centre at 132 Algoma Street South, has been bustling this long weekend.
This year marks the 32nd year of Thunder Bay’s Festa Italiana.
The lines for Cannoli, Peaches and Crostoli are moving fast. Festa will be open from July 31 and Aug. 1 from noon til 8 p.m. It’s the perfect temperature for enjoying some live music while snacking on fresh, handmade Cannoli.
Despite this Festa not being back in full swing, there are still about 300 people involved in organizing and prepping for this weekend's event. They have been making gnocchi and meatballs since the end of June.
There are about 60 people from the Italian Ladies Society alone to make the Cannoli, Peaches and Crostoli - I’m told the Crostoli sells out first, followed by the Cannoli and Peaches.
The Men’s society are selling Penne, Lasagna, sausage on a bun, meatball on a bun and of course gnocchi.
There’s outdoor seating set up to enjoy the live entertainment and Italian delicacies. The beer garden opens at noon. Live entertainment and a large LED screen showing various concert performances is set up for attendees to enjoy.
