BERGLUND, Ont. – A Grassy Narrows First Nation man is facing impaired driving charges after being stopped by a RIDE program on Highway 621.

Ontario Provincial Police were conducting a RIDE check on Saturday around 11 p.m. at the corner of Highway 621 and Highway 600 in Berglund.

Police say a vehicle approached driving slowly passed the officers, eventually stopping.

Officers used an approved roadside screening device and obtained grounds that was 80 or more milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.

Police arrested the driver, and he was taken to the Rainy River Detachment for further investigation.

The driver, a 21-year-old from Big Grassy First Nation, was charged with operate a conveyance with 80 or more milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliletres of blood; and operate a conveyance while impaired by drug or alcohol.

He will appear in Rainy River Provincial Court on Jan. 22 to answer to these charges.
