THUNDER BAY – The expansion Kam River Fighting Walleye continue to build a roster as their debut season draws nearer and nearer.

The Superior International Junior Hockey League team on Monday announced the signing of Thunder Bay forward Christian Veneruzzo, who collected 52 points in 40 games playing for the NA3HL’s Bozeman Ice Dogs this past season.

Veneruzzo is a product of the Thunder Bay Kings program, playing for the under 18 team at the 2019 Telus Cup, held at Fort William Gardens.

“Bringing a player like Christian home is a huge asset to our program,” said Fighting Walleye general manager Kevin McCallum, in a release issued by the team.

“Christian had a tremendous season in Bozeman last year and adding a point a game player to our roster is exciting and will be a huge compliment to the rest of the roster.”

Sticking with familiar faces is always a good way to build a program, coach Matt Valley said.

“Another huge local talent is joining the Walleye family here. Venny is going to obviously bolster our forward group offensively. But what I’m excited for is to watch him compete day in and day out. As a coach it’s such a pleasure to work with people like that,” Valley said. “

A player of this calibre and character elevates everyone’s game around him as well,” he added.
