SPOONER, Wisc. – The Kam River Walleye keep proving night in and night out they’re the class of the Superior International Junior Hockey League.
The top-ranked team was at it again on Friday night, dismantling the lone American team left in the now six-team circuit, roaring out to a 6-0 lead over the host Wisconsin Lumberjacks en route to a 8-1 win, their 14th straight victory.
Dayton Clarke scores a hat trick and Holden Woodcroft and Jeremy Dunmore had a pair of goals apiece to pace the Fighting Walleye, who at 24-3-1 are running away with the SIJHL’s regular-season crown, leading second-place Red Lake by 13 points entering Friday’s slate of contests.
Kersey Rich had the other Kam River goal.
Jace Anderson had the lone marker for the Lumberjacks (10-19-2), spoiling Eric Vanska’s shutout bid with 3:31 to play in the third. Vanska authored 32 saves in victory, while Tyler Swanson surrendered eight goals on 53 shots for Wisconsin.
The two teams meet again on Saturday night.
