THUNDER BAY — Plans for a fireworks display to mark the end of the Thunder Bay Border Cats' first home series since 2019 have been shelved.

The Northwoods League team on Thursday announced that their scheduled fireworks show after their game on Friday has been cancelled due to a fire ban issued in the city and a restricted fire zone implemented by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry across the region.

"The Border Cats organization apologizes to our fans; however, the situation is out of our control and we understand that safety is of utmost importance at this time," team officials said in a statement.

Friday's game against the Duluth Huskies is scheduled to start at 7:35 p.m. at Port Arthur Stadium.

The team also has fireworks shows planned for their remaining Friday home games on June 30, July 7, and Aug. 4.
