Fire causes heavy damage to Parkway Drive home

Fire breaks out in bungalow near former Churchill high school site.

THUNDER BAY -- A supper-hour fire appears to have caused heavy damage to a Parkway Drive home.

Several pumpers and the aerial ladder were on scene on Wednesday evening, as flames leapt from the roof of the bungalow-style home.

Firefighters on scene described it as a tough fire that started in the carport, which was fully involved when they arrived on scene. It quickly moved into the adjacent home, where it became tricky to fight because of where it wound up.

No one was injured, all occupants got out safely.

Five pumpers and an aerial ladder truck, with 25 firefighters, battled the blaze.

The fire is under investigation.
