Fire damages Frederica Street apartment

No one hurt in apartment fire early Sunday morning.

THUNDER BAY -- No one was hurt early Sunday morning after fire broke out at a West Frederica Street apartment. 

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue said they responded to a fire call just after midnight on Sunday, arriving to find a medium amount of smoke that was increasing in the kitchen area of a second-storey unit. 

Residents of the apartment, located in the 200 block of the Westfort street, had evacuated the premises before firefighters showed up.

The fire was contained to the kitchen, the unit suffering smoke damage  No other damage was sustained elsewhere in the building. Residents and tenants were able to return to their apartments shortly afterward, with the exception of those living in the damaged apartment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
