Shuniah Township Fire Department officials have issued a reminder to residents as the long weekend approaches.
They say they want people to be aware that not only are fire permits needed for any open burning, but that a special permit is also needed for fireworks.
Fire permits are free and are available at several locations in the municipality, but fireworks permits are only available through the fire department.
A site inspection is also required before a permit can be issued.
