Fire engulfs Bay Street building

There's no word on any injuries from the Starlite Flooring fire, which occurred near the supper hour.

THUNDER BAY -- The Bay and Algoma area was covered in a thick blanket of smoke on Friday afternoon as Thunder Bay firefighters battled a major fire at a building on the corner of Bay Street and Machar Avenue.

There is no word if anyone was hurt during the afternoon fire, which broke out around 5 p.m.

Fire crews used an aerial ladder and were seen using a chainsaw near the two-storey brick building's roof to gain access to the flames. Smoke was pouring from the building on multiple fronts as a crowd of onlookers watched the scene unfold.
