Fire engulfs unoccupied Simpson Street building

THUNDER BAY - Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue responded to a structural fire in the 200 Block of Simpson Street early Saturday.

The building was unoccupied. An outdoor stairway with access to the second floor was fully involved.

First arriving units were able to extinguish the fire quickly, per TBFR media release.

Due to size of flames, extra precaution was taken, and the building was searched thoroughly for fire extension into building. 

Cause of the fire is under investigation.

A total of five pumper trucks, one aerial ladder truck and one command unit responded to bring this fire under control.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is reminding the general public it is important to remember that dry tall grass around buildings are a fire hazard and should be cleared.
