THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay residents got a scare early Thursday morning when a fire broke out in their attic.
Just before 5 a.m, Thunder Bay Police discovered the fire on the 400 block of Fourth Avenue. The occupants were alerted and safely removed from their home.
When fire crews arrived on scene, smoke and fire were coming from the second-floor window and roof area of the residence. A second alarm was activated.
The fire was contained to the attic area and was quickly brought under control and extinguished with an exterior and interior attack.
The occupants are fortunate police were in the area because there were no working smoke detectors on the top floor.
The fire caused moderate smoke and water damage throughout the home.
The cause is under investigation.
