THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay Fire Rescue says a quick response resulted in a residential fire on Machar Avenue being rapidly extinguished.

Fire crews were called to the scene just after 5 p.m. to find smoke pouring from the back door of the building. A second alarm was called and firefighters entered the rear of the home, putting the fire out.

The tenants, their two small children and a dog had self-evacuated after the fire started, thanks in part to working smoke alarms on all levels of the home.

A ceiling mounted fan was blamed as the culprit for the electrical fire, causing the contents of the bathroom to catch on fire.

Six pumpers responded to the fire, with one aerial ladder and a command unit also called in to help.
