Warmer temperatures and recent precipitation have Thunder Bay Fire Rescue officials warning residents to stay off the ice.

While there haven't been any reported incidents of people going through the ice this year, fire chief John Hay says conditions on the waterways are more dangerous than usual.

The fire chief adds that people should avoid shorelines and river banks as they are also unsafe at this time of year.

Despite there being no incidents of people going through the ice, there have been a significant amount of calls to the Fire Rescue service of people being spotted on unsafe ice.
