THUNDER BAY - A blaze that destroyed a residence on Chippewa Road earlier this week has been deemed suspicious.

Office of the Fire Marshal investigator Peter Hamilton on Thursday confirmed the fire, which broke out Monday morning at 4 a.m., has been deemed suspicious.

Hamilton refused to comment on the specific nature of why the fire has been ruled suspicious, citing his ongoing investigation as well as one that will be conducted by the Thunder Bay Police Service.

Nobody was home at the time of the blaze.

“In this case the fire impacted both the trailer and the addition. Both have total loss,” Hamilton said.

There was some minor damage to nearby trailers as the heat melted some siding.

The scene has been turned over to the homeowners.

Hamilton said a fire science report will be conducted, which is expected to be completed in six to eight weeks. That will be part of his overall report, which will be turned over to city police.
