Firearm, contraband tobacco seized following traffic stop

City police arrested a 48-year-old man on Sunday following reports of a suspicious man.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the area of Garden Avenue just after 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29 following a 911 call reporting a suspicious male. 

The caller contacted 911 on behalf of a male who came to their door and requested police be called. The male said he was being chased, and then fled. 

The caller gave police a description of this man’s vehicle and the direction he was travelling in. 

Officers located the male and conducted a traffic stop on West Arthur Street. 

Police learned the male was unlicensed. The male was also in possession of a rifle, which was in the back seat of his vehicle, contraband tobacco, and more than $5,000 in Canadian currency. 

A 48-year-old man of no-fixed address was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm Contrary to A Prohibition Order, and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000. 

He was expected to appear in bail court in Thunder Bay on Monday, Dec. 30.
