UPDATE: Firefighters battle Government Road fire

No reports of injuries following a fire that caused extensive damage to a Government Road home.

THUNDER BAY - Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews remain on the scene of a fire at a Government Road home that began early Wednesday afternoon.

A call was received just before 2 p.m. of a structural fire on Government Road, just south of Dawson Road. When crews arrived, flames were seen shooting out of a third-story window and a second alarm was called.

Fire crews battled the fire using water pumped from a nearby creek. Defensive operations brought the fire under control after several hours. The structure sustained heavy damage, including a collapsed roof.

Crews remain on scene checking for hotspots. No one was in the home at the time of the fire and there are no reports of injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
