Firefighters contain Brown Street kitchen fire

Kitchen fire causes moderate damage to home Friday morning.

THUNDER BAY – No injuries reported following a southside kitchen fire Friday morning.

According to a Thunder Bay Fire Rescue release, firefighters responded to a grease fire in a Brown Street kitchen that got out of control around 11:45 a.m.

Fire crews arrived on scene within three minutes of the alarm.

The initial crew found heavy smoke billowing from the home upon their arrival on scene.

Firefighters accounted for the lone occupant of the home immediately as additional crews arrived on scene to assist.

Fire crews gained control of the kitchen grease fire very quickly preventing further damage to the structure.   

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. However, there was moderate damage to the home, mainly due to smoke from the fire and from water that was applied during fire-fighting activities.

The cause of the fire was deemed accidental due to cooking.
