THUNDER BAY – A woman and her dog were successfully rescued after being trapped by the rushing Current River.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews responded to the late Monday afternoon call after receiving reports that the woman entered the water to retrieve her dog at the Centennial Park off-leash dog park, with the pair subsequently becoming stranded.

Responding firefighters found the pair on a small rock outcrop with a cliff embankment behind them and fast moving water in front.

Firefighters determined that they needed to use their rapid deployment watercraft to access the pair. With another team deployed down river as a precaution, they were subsequently retrieved.
