Firefighters respond to blaze at former Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital

The incident remains under investigation.

THUNDER BAY – At around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Thunder Bay Fire responded to a structural fire at the former Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital.

Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke coming from the front of the building, which was closed in 2018.

First arriving crews entered the building and were able to apply water to get the fire under control quickly.

A total of four pumpers, an aerial ladder and a command vehicle responded to the incident, which remains under investigation.

Firefighters also put out a blaze in the building in May

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue would like to remind residents to ensure all smoke detectors are in working order.
