UPDATE: Police investigating after man found submerged in McIntyre Floodway dies in hospital

A man found submerged in the McIntyre Floodway near William Street was pronounced dead at hospital

THUNDER BAY - Police are investigating after a man was found submerged in the McIntyre Floodway and later died in hospital.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to an alarm after 5 p.m. of a person in the water near the 700 block of William Street.

Two pumpers, a platoon chief, and a boat responded to the scene and a rapid deployment device was used to locate the man who was submerged in the water.

Three firefighters in Mustang immersion suits and life jackets entered the water and retrieved the man, who was then transferred to EMS for care. Despite lifesaving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. 

Thunder Bay Police Service is assisting the coroner in the investigation surrounding the circumstances of the man's death.
