THUNDER BAY -- Firefighters tackled a pair of fires at opposite ends of Court Street within the span of a few hours.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews responded to the Paramount Theatre building on Court Street South at 1:20 a.m. Friday morning after an automatic alarm was activated.
Responding firefighters found a haze of smoke coming out of loose insulation in the attic space, prompting the call for a second alarm. Firefighters then discovered an electrical wire had worn through a piece of metal, causing it to short and burn through.
The wires were disconnected and the area was soaked with water. A foam hose line was brought up as a precaution .An aerial ladder was used to access the roof to help ventilate the attic.
A total of 21 firefighters responded to the call.
The fire is not considered suspicious.
Meanwhile, hours earlier firefighters were called to a backyard blaze on Court Street North at 9 p.m.. Firefighters arrived to find a shed fully involved in flames, with a second nearby shed starting to catch fire. Firefighters were able to douse the flames and quickly bring the fire under control.
The siding of a neighbour's home sustained heat damage.
The cause of that fire is unknown but not considered suspicious.
