Firefighters tackle structural fire

An early morning fire is under investigation.

THUNDER BAY – Fire crews were on scene early Friday morning at a structural fire on the city’s south side.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews responded to an automatic fire alarm around 7:44 a.m. in the Victoriaville complex on Syndicate Avenue South.

First arriving units were waived down by St. Joseph’s staff on site.

According to a release, St. Joseph’s staff indicated that there was a working fire in the woodworking shop.

Crews entered the south entrance where they encountered smoke and flames issuing from inside the woodworking area.

The fire was quickly knocked down and brought under control keeping the damage to the structure to a minimum.

All occupants were evacuated and no injuries were sustained.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
