THUNDER BAY – A murder trial scheduled to begin this week has been postponed.
The trial for Adam Capay, who is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 35-year-old Sherman Kirby Quisses after an alleged altercation in June 2012 at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre, was expected to begin with jury selection on Monday morning at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.
Crown attorney David MacKenzie in an email told Dougall Media the defence lawyers filed a motion to have Capay examined by psychiatrists to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.
There is no word on when the case will be back in court.
At the time of the incident, Thunder Bay Police officials said Capay, who was 19, and Quisses were in a common area of the correctional centre where both were serving sentences during the morning hours of June 3, 2012 when Quisses was attacked by a sharp object.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
