The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is dealing with the season's first tick submissions.
Bug expert Ken Deacon says they've already tested one tick positive for Lyme disease after it was found on a dog.
Deacon said the weather this region had last year will likely mean that this year’s tick season is an active one.
“Last year is going to be where the present population comes from and it was a great year for ticks,” he said during an interview with CKPR Radio. “So based on last year I expect they are going to be even more abundant (this season).”
Deacon encourages people to bring in their ticks and take any bites seriously.
