OPP Media Release

(THUNDER BAY, ON) With the recent snowfall that Thunder Bay and area experienced, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were very busy responding to numerous collisions.

Between Friday, November 18 and Saturday, November 19, 2016, officers responded to 35 motor vehicle collisions.

The majority of the collisions involved vehicles going in to the ditch. There were numerous stranded motorists that officers had to escort to safety. There were no serious injuries reported.

There were numerous tractor trailer units that had jackknifed causing several local highways to be blocked. Due to the blocked highways and poor weather conditions, some local highways were closed for several hours.

OPP would like to remind motorists that during poor road and weather conditions, if travel is not necessary, cancel or postpone your trip for your safety and that of other motorists.
