THUNDER BAY – Staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre are dealing with five confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Dr. Stewart Kennedy said two of the patients are being treated at the intensive care unit, while the other three are being cared for in the COVID-19 isolation unit located on ward 3A.

The two in ICU are in serious, but stable condition.

“We also have 22 presumptive cases, just waiting back for test results,” Kennedy said on Wednesday. “So basically it hasn’t changed in 48 hours, which is good. We’re holding steady. It went from three to five.”

According to figures published on Tuesday afternoon, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit has identified 51 total COVID-19 cases, 37 of which have been resolved.

However, Kennedy said he wouldn’t be surprised to see those numbers increase on Wednesday as tests from the drive-through weekend blitz put on by the health unit are returned.
