THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay District Health Unit says six COVID-19 cases have been removed from their count, citing an issue at the lab that analyzed the tests.

The health unit, in a release issued on Wednesday, said the results were indeterminate because of the lab issues and as such, five cases from Thunder Bay and surrounding area and one in a district community are no longer considered positive cases.

All six individuals have been notified and provided with further direction.

The health unit also announced five new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in the District of Thunder Bay to 755.

Two of the new cases are related to the outbreak at the Valard East-West Tie Project and one more is related to the outbreak at the Thunder Bay District Jail.

Two more are considered close contact cases.

Two of the cases are considered to reside in Thunder Bay and surrounding areas and three are from district communities.

There are now 73 active cases in the Thunder Bay District.
