THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay’s COVID-19 case count has grown by five and the death count has grown by two.

The two deaths are attributed to an ongoing outbreak at Southbridge Roseview nursing home.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Thursday said three of the cases are considered close contact and two are pending. All five are considered to live in Thunder Bay and surrounding areas, which includes a number of nearby neighbouring communities, such as Oliver Paipoonge and Conmee Township.

The exposure category in two other cases is pending.

There have now been 585 cumulative cases since the first case was announced in March. It also marked the 56th straight day at least one new case has been diagnosed, a streak that dates back to Nov. 6.

Ten additional cases are now considered resolved, leaving 70 active cases in the district. There have been 21 deaths attributed to the virus, while 496 cases are considered resolved.

There  is currently one COVID-19 patient hospitalized at this time.
