THUNDER BAY — For the second day in a row, the Thunder Bay District Health Unit reports five new COVID-19 case in its service area.

This is the lowest two-day total (10) since Jan. 2-3 when there were nine.

Three of the cases are connected to ongoing outbreaks, including two at the Thunder Bay District Jail and one at the Valard east-west power line project near Marathon.

The two other cases are in the City of Thunder Bay or immediate surrounding area.

The TBDHU reports that two of the cases are the result of close contact with a person already infected with the virus.

Eight previously-diagnosed cases were resolved since Sunday, bringing the number of active cases in the city and district to 155.

Three people remain in hospital for treatment, including one in the intensive care unit.

The Ontario government reports 1,958 new cases across the province Monday.

Correction:  A previous version of this story stated that one of the new cases is at the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre. It is at the Valard work camp.
