Five-year-old drowns in Eabametoong

Girl found in Eabamet Lake Friday afternoon, Nishnawbe Aski Police confirm.

EABAMETOONG FIRST NATION - A five-year-old girl has died after drowning in Eabamatoong First Nation, the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) has confirmed. 

The girl was found in the waters of Eabamet Lake Friday afternoon, NAPS Deputy Chief Darryl Snider confirmed. She was rushed to the community's nursing station with vital signs absent, and was later pronounced dead.

A post-mortem is being conducted by the regional coroner, while Snider said a police investigation into the matter is ongoing.

The First Nation is located about 300 kilometres north of Thunder Bay.
