Flooding south of the city will close Whitefish Valley Public School and cancel busing for high school students in a number of townships on Wednesday.
Lakehead Public Schools said the elementary school will be closed for the day, with busing cancelled for high school students in Gillies, Pearson, Marks, Lybster, and Strange townships, as well as in the O'Connor south of but not including Connolly Road, Smith Road and Harstone Road.
The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority issued a flood warning for Oliver Paipoonge, Neebing O'Connor and Gillies, advising earlier Tuesday that 90 millimetres of precipitation had been recorded on the Whitefish River gauge in Nolalu over a 24-hour period. Whitefish Valley Public School had closed early on Tuesday.
Environment Canada is forecasting more rain overnight, with the potential for thunderstorms.
The school board urges parents and students to check local media and the board's social media channels for updates for the rest of the week.
